ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background to the study
This research study examines the
Impact of Christian Leadership on the Structure of the 21st Century Church: A
Critical Examination of Onitsha District of Assemblies of God, Nigeria. Christian Leadership is the process of
influencing others to understand and agree about what needs to be done and how
to do it, and the process of facilitating individual and collective efforts to
accomplish shared objectives. According
to Bruce (1986 ), “he classified leadership to (a) Influencing individuals to
contribute to group goals and (b) coordinating the pursuit of those goals.” Christian Leadership is viewed as a
process that includes influencing the task objectives and strategies of a group
or organization, influencing people in the organization to implement the
strategies and achieve the objectives, influencing group maintenance and
identification, and influencing the culture of the organization. It is a
process of motivating people to work together collaboratively to accomplish
great things. Christian Leadership
is the lifting of a man’s vision to higher sights, the raising of a man’s
performance to a higher standard, the building of a man’s personality beyond
its normal limitations. A leader is best when people barely know that he
exists, not so good when people obey and acclaim him, worst when they despise
him...
1.2 Statement
of the Problem.
This research study examines the Impact of Christian
Leadership on the Structure of the 21st Century Church: A Critical Examination
of Onitsha District of Assemblies of God, Nigeria. This research seek to unveil
the possible challenges encountered by Christian leadership and the effects of
this challenges on Christian leadership, the impact on Christian Leadership on the structure of the 21st century church:
Onitsha District of Assemblies of God,
Nigeria and to also proffer workable
measure and prospect to Christian Leadership.
1.3 Purpose of the Study.
The main purpose
of this study is to examine the Impact of Christian Leadership on the Structure
of the 21st Century Church: A Critical Examination of Onitsha District of
Assemblies of God, Nigeria.
Specifically,
the study will:
1)
Explore
the manner and ways of growth of these churches,
2)
Ascertain
the challenges facing the Pastors/ Christian leadership in Assemblies of God
Church Onitsha District.
3)
Examine
the modalities to savage the short coming of Pastors/Christian leaders in
Assemblies of God church, Nigeria Onitsha District.
4)
Investigating
the efficacy of Christian leadership in structuring the church in this 21st
century?

District?
2) Are the Pastors/Reverence /Leaders in
Assemblies of God Church in Onitsha District living up to expectation?
3) Have you felt the impact of Christian
Leadership on the structuring of the church in Assemblies of God Church in
Onitsha District?
4) Do you believe in the efficacy of
Christian leadership in structuring the church in this 21st century?
5) How will you rate the Leadership performance
of Pastors/ Reverence /Leaders in Onitsha District of Assemblies of God Church?
1.5 Significance of the Study.
This research Study
will be of immense benefits to theologians, Christian leaders, Christians and
non-Christians alike, because it explore the vital place of Christian Leadership
in structuring the church. It also point
out the role, effects, challenges and way forward and it’s impact on Christian
leadership in Assemblies of God Church in Onitsha District. It is also hope
that, the research study will be a resource material to student of theology,
Christian leaders, researchers etc.
1.6 Scope of the Study.
The scope of the study
is limited to Nigeria, with a more specific area of study, which is on the Impact of Christian Leadership on the
Structure of the 21st Century Church: A Critical Examination of Onitsha
District of Assemblies of God, Nigeria. The study will be conducted in Onitsha
North Local Government area of Anambra state of Nigeria with a total of 100
respondents.
1.7 Limitations of the Study.
The researcher
will simultaneously engage in this study with other academic work. This
consequently will cut down on the time devoted for the research work.
Insufficient fund tends to impede the efficiency of the researcher in sourcing
for the relevant materials, literature or information and in the process of
data collection (internet, questionnaire and interview).
1.8 Definition of Terms.
Impact:
have
a strong effect on someone or something.
Leadership: is
the ability of an individual or a group of individuals to influence and guide
followers or other members of an organization.
Christian
Leadership: is a dynamic relational process in which
people (s), under the influence of the Holy Spirit, partner to achieve a common
goal - it is serving others by leading and leading others by serving.
Church:
The word “church” comes from the Greek word ekklesia which is defined as “an assembly” or
“called-out ones.” The root meaning of “church” is not that of a building, but
of people.
