 A THESIS

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1    BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY

The prevalence of immoral living among members in church has grown to a level that creates fear and tension in the heart of anyone in church and her spiritual life, mostly in Edo South District of Assemblies of God, Nigeria. Immoral living has taken the place of morality among members today. Moral, according to Webster’s Universal Dictionary and Thesaurus, is an adjectival word that is “of or related to character, particularly as regards to right from wrong. Amato (1990) opined that, immoral living refers to the principles concerning turning right to wrong, good behaviour to bad behaviour. (p.73) Dotonu  (2011) observed that,  immoral living as an act of sexual immorality and fraudulent practices is one of the most common immoral acts among members in the church today.(p.142) Davies (2013) he pointed among other that, jealousy, killing, lies, adultery, fornication, theft, heresies, pride are several immoral acts and are against the will of God. (p. 57)The enormity of change within society, and the implications of these changes have dawned slowly on some segments of the Church...

One of the surest ways of curbing this menace will be through Christian education of church members in Edo South District of Assemblies of God, Nigeria. Randolph (2019) refers to Christian education as the belief that all learning and truth is ultimately from God and must be understood through a close understanding of the Bible. (p.46) Christian education can be defined as comprising two basic concepts: (1) The efforts of Christians to transmit their Scriptural beliefs and practices to the next generation, and (2) the efforts of Christians to nurture and edify one another spiritually.(p.67)...

1.2       STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The major problem plaguing the church not doubt is immoral living. Family, government, economy, media, education, and religion are important to understanding this theory and the core institutions that define sociology. According to functionalism, an institution only exists because it serves a vital role in the functioning of society. If it no longer serves a role, an institution will die away. When new needs evolve or emerge, new institutions will be created to meet them....
