CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1       Background of the study

The Bible clearly represents the Holy Spirit as possessing divine attributes and exercising divine authority. Since the fourth century, nearly all who agree that the Spirit is a person also agree that He is divine."  When viewed together, passages from the Old and New Testaments depict the Holy Spirit as a divine person equal to the Father and the Son. Thus, the Holy Spirit is said to be one of the three personalities of the triune God, also referred to as the Trinity.

The effects of the Holy Spirit on Missionary activities encompass all aspect of mission. The Holy Spirit is not only important to mission but essential to life. In fact the coming of the Holy Spirit was equally important as coming of Jesus Christ! Jesus Christ saves us from our past life but the Holy Spirit empowers us to live the life God has created us for.[3]...

1.3       Purpose of the Study.

The purpose of the study is to examine the Effects Of The Holy Spirit On Missionary Expansion: A Case Study Of Assemblies Of God Church In Abuja North District Of Assemblies Of God, Nigeria. Specifically,

 1.    To investigate whether Abuja North District have any knowledge of the Holy Spirit work on missionary expansion.

2.     To investigate the essential role played by the Holy Spirit on mission strategies.

3.     To outline the restrictive nature of the Holy Spirit on missionary expansion.

4.     To proffers possible suggestions to these restriction of the manifestation of the Holy Spirit encountered by missionaries:

1.5              Significance of the Study.    

This study is will be of immense benefits because it deal in details the effects of the Holy Spirit on missionary expansion.  It will unveil the important place, role, effects, impact and the multifaceted manifestations of the Holy Spirit on missionary expansion. It will be of immense resource material to theologians, church leaders, ministers of the gospel, Christian and non- Christian alike. It will help missionaries in their work. It will contribute to literature and research.

1.6       Delimitation of the Study.

The delimitation of the research study is limited in scope to the Effects of the Holy Spirit on Missionary Expansion: A Case Study of Assemblies of God Church in Abuja North District of Assemblies of God, Nigeria.

1.8       Definition of Terms.

Effects: the art of planning and directing overall military operations and movements in a war or battle.

Holy Spirit:  the Holy Spirit is a divine person, the third person in the trinity, a being with a mind, emotions, and a will.

Missionary: the act or an instance of sending a person to do the work of a mission.

Expansion: it refers to the process of growth and development.
