ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background to the Study
This study deals with Baptism in the Holy Spirit and its Implications for Church Growth: A Case Study of Assemblies of God Church, Esan District. The Holy Spirit Baptism is not only important in the life of the church but also essential to life. While the coming of Christ was to save humanity, the coming of the Holy Spirit is to empower the church. Without the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the church cannot grow to its fullness. Some churches are not growing today because they fail to employ the power and benefits of the baptism in the Holy Spirit in the church...
1.2 Statement of the Problem.
The inabilities
of the church to judiciously utilised baptism of the Holy Spirit for growth
constitute a problem to the church. Churches engage in activities outside the
baptism of the Holy Spirit, which make them not to grow. Some churches also neglect
the Holy Spirit baptism to do things their own way. Worldly shows and carnality
have characterized the affairs of some churches, which make them to struggle
with impacting their members with the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Because of
the lack of the baptism of the Holy Spirit in the church, it has result to half
back cake Christians, and end up causing problems in the church...
1.3 Purpose of the Study.
This study will
examine the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and its Implications for Church Growth:
A Case Study of Assemblies of God Church Esan District. It will include
the concept of baptism, the person of the Holy Spirit, the
characteristics of the Holy Spirit, the importance of the Baptism in the Holy
Spirit for the Church, Hindrances to the Baptism in the Holy Spirit in the
church and Implication of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit for Church growth.

are the hindrances to the Baptism in the Holy Spirit in the church?

1.5 Significance of the Study.
This study will
be of immense benefit to the church, Pastors, church members, theologians and
researchers. To churches it will be of immense benefits to them, in that it
will help the church to understand the role of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit in
church growth. To Pastors, it will guide them on how to use and employ the
Baptism in the Holy Spirit for church growth...
1.6 Research Procedure
The researcher
will employ library and field investigations.
Data will be collected through questionnaire and oral interviews that
will be distributed to respondents in Assemblies of God Church Esan District
for the purpose of gathering information through prepared questions and
examined for true representation. The research study will be predominantly
library, internet and field investigations. This research will be conducted to
achieve the goals and objective of this research study.
1.7 Delimitation
of the Study
This study is limited to the Baptism in
the Holy Spirit and its Implications for Church Growth: A Case Study of
Assemblies of God Church Esan District. Esan District covers three Local
Government Areas. Esan West, Esan Central and Igueben Local Government Areas.
Esan District has a population of about 17,000 members.
1.8 Definition of Terms.
Baptism: is a process of admission and adoption, almost invariably
with the use of water into the Christian faith.
Holy Spirit: the Holy Ghost
is a divine person, the third person in the trinity, a being with a mind,
emotions, and a will.
Implications: the action or
state of being involved in something.
Church: is
the body of Christ that is gathered together to reverence, pray and worship God
among others.
Growth:
is the stages of development of something.
Church Growth: is
a systematic improvement and advancement of the church in all ramification.
