THE EFFECTS OF PLANTING NEW CHURCHES IN A COMPETITIVE SOCIETY

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1       Background to the study

This study deals with the Effects of Planting New Churches in a Competitive Society: A Case Study of Assemblies of God Church, Ora Section. The process of planting new churches involves missionary, evangelism, discipleship of new believers, the training of church leaders, and the establishing of new churches to accommodate them. The process also includes finding a location to meet or purchase a property and erecting a new building to accommodate the new convert into the faith. Planting new churches is one of the mandates (the great commission) given to believers by Christ to make disciples of all nations. In delivering this great mandate one have to apply good strategies through the leading and empowerment of the Holy Spirit and through his wisdom in order for one to actualize this purpose and arrive at a successful church planting...

 1.2      Statement of the Problem.

In today’s society, a lot of church planters are faced with competitions, which have resulted in nefarious activities that may bedevil and be detrimental to the society at large. Planting of new churches has become a do or die affair, thereby derailing from the original intent of church planting. This has resulted in raising pre-mature church planters that are in turn raising baby Christians. Most newly planted churches today have an unbelievably high failure rate, often do not survive the loss of the founder or those with the founding vision, and cost far more per member than established churches. Other challenges Church planters are faced with are lack of funds, inadequate biblical knowledge, the Holy Spirit backings, spiritual immaturity, lack of passion, tribal and ethnical discrimination, language barriers among others...
