EVALUATION OF TEACHING METHODS IN SUNDAY SCHOOL

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1       Background to the Study.

This study is on the Evaluation of Teaching Methods in Sunday school: A Case Study of Assemblies of God Church, Azu Agbor 2 Section, Ika South Local Government Area, Delta State. The teaching methods in Sunday School of the church is tailored to enhance the growth of the church and wellbeing of the members. It is meant to teach believers and unbelievers the infallible word of God.

Sunday school has played a key role in the health of a church by accomplishing its mission. Sunday school being the first and initial point of contact with new converts, visitors, and the entire members of the church; and as an educational institution usually (Molds) Christian character; Which comes up before the church main service and it is the most educative section of the church service where knowledge and skills are imparted. The teaching methods should be given an unavoidable attention since the product of any church is dependent on the efficacy of the teaching methods that the teacher used. When it comes to impacting of knowledge, teaching methods and teaching aids are very important to the full understanding of the pupils/ students... 

1.2       Statement of the Problem.

The teaching methods in Sunday school in our churches is worrisome and not impactful. This can be seen from the lessons outlined, the mode of communication and old method of operation. For many years these lessons have been taught without any kind of improvement. The pioneer ministers who laboured and established Sunday school and its curriculum were successful...

1.3       Purpose of the Study.

This study examined the Evaluation of Teaching Methods in Sunday School: A Case Study of Assemblies of God Church, Azu Agbor 2 Section, Ika South Local Government Area, Delta State. Specifically, the study seek to ascertain the evaluation of the teaching methods in Sunday school, the roles of teachers in Sunday school, the problems facing appropriate teaching methods in Sunday school and measures to overcome these problems.

1.5       Significance of the Study

The study would be of immense help to all who are involved in Sunday school program, Christian education, teachers and all workers in the Sunday school department in the following ways. It shall serve as resource for students who are interested in research studies especially those studying Sunday school programme. It will enable all the teachers and workers in the Sunday school to know the goal and objectives of the Sunday school curriculum and this will serve as direction to them...

1.6       Research Procedure

       The researcher employed library and field investigations.  Data was collected through questionnaire and oral interviews that was distributed to respondents in Assemblies of God Church, Azu Agbor 2 Section for the purpose of gathering information through prepared questions and examined for true representation. The research study was predominantly library, internet and field investigations. This research was conducted to achieve the goals and objective of this research study.

1.7       Delimitation of the Study.

         The scope of this study is on the Evaluation of Teaching Methods in Sunday School: A Case Study of Assemblies of God Church, Azu Agbor 2 Section, Ika South Local Government Area, Delta State. Azu Agbor 2 Section is made up of five local Government Area such as Ika South, Ika North East, Anoicha south, Anoicha West and Anoicha North. However the Headquarter is located at Asaba, the Sectorial headquarter of Azu Agbor 2 Section located at Agbor; Ika South comprises of seven church with 7 pastors and 550 members.

1.8       Definition of Terms

Evaluation: is to access something or someone to know their worth or value.

Sunday: is the day adopted by Christians for church service.

School: A school is an educational institution designed to provide learning spaces and learning environments for the teaching of students (or "pupils") under the direction of teachers.

Sunday School: Sunday school classes usually precede a Sunday church service and are used to provide catechesis to Christians, especially children and teenagers, and oftentimes adults as well.

Teaching: It is an attempt to help someone acquire knowledge of skill.

Method: Is a techniques to carry out something.

Teaching method: Is one major segment of education, which has undergone significant changes in recent time.
