EFFECTS OF IMMORALITY AMONG MEMBERS ON CHURCH GROWTH

 

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1    Background to the Study

         It seems immorality is prevalent in churches in Assemblies of God Church Oka 3 Section. It has grown to a level that creates fear and tension in the heart of anyone who has concern for the future of the church. Immorality is grappling with many behavioural problems of immorality among churches which effects the growth of the church.

Immorality has great and grievous consequences both to the individual and in the church lot of death, diseases and infestations and the free operation of familiar spirits in the church come as a result of the sin of immorality. God’s presence leaves the church whenever immorality comes into the church. Immorality puts off the fire of revival from the church and drives away the presence of the Holy Spirit out of the church. The devil and evil spirit takes over and as a result many people dies and lot of other calamities are registered.

Cigarettes have almost become obsolete as marijuana and all brands of hard drugs are injected daily and have taken centre stage. Alcohol with the highest percentage value are consumed with reckless abandon by the youth while those who do not take them are usually seen by their peers as novice. Ex-rated films, immoral movies, shows and programmes are displayed are watch without regulation...

1.2       Statement of the Problem.

There seems to be a lot of immoral acts going on in the Church. The churches are well established and have to grow but they seems to be overwhelmed with immorality which have tempered with the growth rate. The effects of immortality in  Assemblies of God Church Oka 3 Section immorality appears in various forms, like fornication, stealing, pride, fraud, deception, intimidation, drug offences, smoking, flirting, and social vices among others. These factors have a lot of implications on the growth of the church. Hence this research work to profer workable measures to overcome this menace bedeviling Assemblies of God Church Oka 3 Section.

1.3       Purpose of the Study.

This study examined the Effects of Immorality among Members on Church Growth in Oka 3 Section, Assemblies of God Church Edo South District Assemblies of God Church in Oka 3 Section. Specifically, the study sought to;

1.         Ascertain the concept of immorality in the church.

2.         Examine the causes of immorality as it affects the growth the church.

3.         Examine the problems of immorality on church growth.

4.         Explore the effects of immorality on the growth of the church.

5.         Examine the measures to overcome immorality in the church.

1.4       Research Questions.

This study will proferred and answer to the following questions:

1.            What is your understanding about immorality?

2.            What are the causes of immorality in the Church?

3.            What are the problems of immorality on church growth?

4.            What are the measures to overcome immorality in the church?

5.            What are the effects of immorality on church growth?

1.5              Significance of the Study.    

The study is of a great benefit to the youths, ministers of the gospel, theologians, members of the church and researchers. To the youth, it will eradicate immoral life among the youth, and to the ministers of the gospel, it will  increase the knowledge on how to tackle immorality among members in the church, and to theologians, it will expose them to the nature of the extent of immorality among members in the church, while to members of the church, is for  them to have a working knowledge of immoral youth among Christian in the church and how to put a stop to it, and to researchers, it will be a resource material for further studies.

1.6       Delimitation of the Study.

This study is limited in scope to the Effects of Immorality among Members on Church Growth in Oka 3 Section, Assemblies of God Church Edo South District. Oka 3 Section is under Edo South District in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo state.

1.7       Definition of Terms.

Effects: something that inevitably follows as a result of an action.

Immorality: the quality or state of being  unchastity in characters and behaviour.

Church: a building used for public Christian worship. And it can also be regarded as a place where people (Christians) come together to worship, pray and serve a supreme being called God.
