INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background to the Study.
This study deals with Prayer and its Implications on Church Growth: A Case Study of Assemblies of God Church Ekpoma II Section. Prayer is the act of communicating with a supernatural being (God) for the purposes of worshipping, requesting guidance and assistance, confessing sins, as an act of reparation or to express one’s thoughts and emotions. The words of prayer may take the form of intercession, a hymn, incantation or a spontaneous utterance in the person’s praying words. The instrumentality of prayer, if properly utilised can enhance the wellbeing of the individuals and the church. The effectiveness of the weapon of prayer can no longer be doubted in growing our churches today...
1.2 Statement of the Problem.
A
prayerless minister, member and church will be a powerless and a stagnated
church. They will become very hard to grow a church. In Assemblies of God Church Ekpoma II Section, it seems most people have wrong
notions on prayer that can grow a church. Even if they pray, their prayers
remain on a personal and rhetorical level that cannot cause church growth. One
of the impediments of a stagnated church has been attributed to laziness on the
part of ministers and members, lackadaisical attitude and weak prayer life,
little regard to prayer, wrong perception on prayer. All these constitute
impediments to the prayer life of the church, which make it difficult for a
church to grow. Powerful and effectual fervent prayer will directly increase
the effectiveness of the church for growth. These barriers necessitated the
need for this study.
