THE IMPORTANCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE CHURCH

 

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1       Background to the study

This study dealt with the Importance of the Holy Spirit in the Church: Assemblies of God Church, Okhokhugbo II As A Case Study. The importance of the Holy Spirit is vital to the actualizing of a church. The entire process of revitalizing is based on seeking spiritual health prayer and the energizing work of the Holy Spirit. Without the presence of the Holy Spirit at work in the life and ministry of a church all efforts are in vain.

A church may experience numerical gains in attendance, but without the ministry of the Holy Spirit the church will not experience the desired growth.  The work of the Holy Spirit on the growth of the church can be compared to the human body. A person can live and breathe without arms and legs. A church is an organism a part of the Body of Christ. A congregation can love the Lord but not make an impact for the Kingdom. Without the blessing and energy of the Holy Spirit a church is merely like a secular organization that experiences sociological growth. In the Church, the Holy Spirit also produces Growth without Gimmicks...

1.2       Statement of the Problem.

God cannot bless a church that does not have and operate in the leading of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit come among other to help, comfort and teaches the church but when this purpose in not acknowledge and abuse, it result into a stumbling block to the church. The work of the Holy Spirit is facilitated in the church when the church practice and operate according to the leading of the Holy Spirit. The absent of the Holy Spirit in a church are filled with conflicts, immorality, sins, spiritual carnality...

1.3       Purpose of the Study.

This study examined the Importance of the Holy Spirit in the Church: Assemblies of God Church, Okhokhugbo II As A Case Study. Specifically, the study sought to explore the person of the Holy Spirit, characteristics of the Holy Spirit, activities of the Holy Spirit in the Church, effects of the absence of the Holy Spirit in the Church and the importance of the Holy Spirit on the growth of the Church.

1.4       Research Questions.

1. Who is the Holy Spirit?
2. What are the characteristics of the Holy Spirit?
3. What are the activities of the Holy Spirit in the Church,
4. What are the effects of the absence of the Holy Spirit in the Church
5. What are the importance of the Holy Spirit on the growth of the Church?

1.5              Significance of the Study.    

This study is of immense benefit to the church, Pastors, church members, theologians and researchers. To churches it will be of immense benefits to them, in that it will help the church to understand the importance of the Holy Spirit in the church. To Pastors, it will guide them on how to use and employ the importance of the Holy Spirit in the church. To the church members it will show them the proper way to engage the importance in the Holy Spirit in the church. To the theologians, it will increase their perspective and knowledge on effectiveness of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit in the church. And to the researchers, it will create a platform for going into further studies on the importance of the Holy Spirit in the church.

 

 

1.6       Research Procedure

The researcher employed library and field investigations.  Data were collected through questionnaire and oral interviews that was distributed to respondents in Assemblies of God Church Okhokhugbo II for the purpose of gathering information through prepared questions and examined for true representation. The research study was predominantly library, internet and field investigations. This research was conducted to achieve the goals and objective of this research study.

1.7       Delimitation of the Study

This study is limited to the Importance of the Holy Spirit in the Church: Assemblies of God Church, Okhokhugbo II As A Case Study. Assemblies of God Church, Okhokhugbo II was created in the year 2010 and have 1 Pastor, missionett  10, men 10, women 26, youths 16 children/teenager 22 with a total of 85members.

1.8       Definition of Terms.

Importance: the state or fact of being of great significance or value.

Holy Spirit:  the Holy Spirit is a divine person, the third person in the trinity, a being with a mind, emotions, and a will.

Church: is the body of Christ that is gathered together to reverence, pray and worship God among others.
