1.1 Background to the Study.
This study deals with Commitment and Its Effects on Church Growth: A Case Study of Some Pentecostal Churches in Benin City. Commitment is more than attendance on Sunday. It's about involvement in the mission of the church. It is about engaging in kingdom work, the most important work on earth. Only the church can share the gospel, only the church can minister in Jesus' name. Heads of state cannot do it. Powerful governments cannot do it. Jesus has entrusted that task to the church. 1.2 Statement of the Problem
Increasing individualism and other
cultural changes are affecting individual Christians’ commitment to their
churches in Benin City. The lack of commitment on the part of ministers, church
leaders and members of the church has made the growth of the church to reduce
drastically. It seems that most churches today has neglected the place of
commitment in growing the church...
1.3 Purpose
of the Study
The purpose of this study is to examine Commitment
and Its Effects on Church Growth: A Case Study of Some Pentecostal Churches in
Benin City. Specifically, the study seek to ascertain the concept of commitment,
the kinds of commitment in the church, the relevance of commitment in the
Church, the challenges of commitment on church growth and the effects of
commitment on Church growth.

1.5. Significance of the Study.
The study is of immense benefit to
ministers, members of the church, theologians, and researchers. This study will
highlight the importance and need of commitment to a ministers and it will equip
them with the knowledge required to drive commitment in the church and among
members for growth. The members of the church will see this study as a platform
to be more serious in the things of God...
1.6 Research
Procedure
The researcher employed library and
field investigations. Data was collected
through questionnaire and oral interviews that was distributed to respondents
in Some Pentecostal Churches in Benin City for the purpose of gathering
information through prepared questions and examined for true representation.
The research study was predominantly library, internet and field
investigations. This research was conducted to achieve the goals and objective
of this research study; which are to find out the effects of commitment on
church growth.
1.7 Delimitation of the Study.
The scope of
this study is limited to Commitment and Its Effects on Church Growth: A Case
Study of Some Pentecostal Churches in Benin City. Benin City covers seven Local Government Area
in Edo States which include Oredo, Ovia South West, Ovia North East and
Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State. Three (3) Pentecostal churches
each will be selected in the four Local Government Area in Benin City. The
churches are Assemblies of God Church, Living Faith Church and the Redeem
Christian Church of God, all in Benin City.
1.8 Definition of Terms.
Commitment:
a state of being dedicated to a course or something.
Effects: A change which is a result or
consequence of an action or other cause.
Church:
is the body of Christ that is gathered
together to reverence, pray and worship God among others.
Growth:
is the stages of development of something.
Church Growth: is
a systematic improvement and advancement of the church.
